In our modern times of “dot coms” and companies that come and go, it’s often easy to overlook businesses who have a long track record and have yet to go belly up in the uncertain economy.

While a lot goes into the success of a company, let alone one that’s been around for over a hundred years, there are some specific examples we, as small business owners, can learn from each one of them.

When I was a teenager I used to scour the thrift stores in search interesting looking old pieces. Depending on how one defines it, some would consider the cave paintings in Lascaux, France or the hieroglyphics of ancient Egypt could be considered graphic design. That poses a bit of a conundrum when it comes to exploring the, “history of graphic design” though! There is also a lot of cross over between design and art, even today.

People may think that computer work is “easy” or doesn’t take a toll on the body, but it most certainly does.
