The Dark Side of Branding

Just how powerful can graphic design be? Have a look at this post, at Design Observer, about the design standards used by the Nazis. It can’t be denied that their use of design to reinforce their message was amazingly successful, both with their followers and with their enemies.

If you ever have doubts about the influence design elements can have, just think of this. My father and my maternal grandfather served in World War II. Even sixty-five years later, and in the next generation, the sight of a swastika still makes me feel ill. That’s not the effect you want your logos to have, but it’s a reminder of just how powerful a logo can be.
