An important election year is on the way, and before long we’ll probably all be wanting to see it over and done with. Needless to say, we’ll be seeing quite a lot of political ads, and I have a feeling the move to online ads will accelerate. There’s no doubt that online ads are an increasingly important tool for presidential candidates, but I’m starting to wonder if there might be a problem with online advertising by candidates for Congress.
Recently I came across the latest in what seems like a newly developed common practice amongst internet users – someone being wronged by a company and then taking their complaints to the web, in every possible way they can. In this case, the guy used Twitter almost exclusively – and his complaints were re-tweeted by countless other users, thereby spreading them to the far corners of the web.
Monica Gaudio, a writer whose work I’ve always enjoyed at Gode Cookery found one of her articles published without her permission. The response she got from the editor who published it, at Cook’s Source magazine, was a textbook example of what not to say.
So why do so many businesses and non-profit groups barrel headlong into social media thinking everyone’s going to have nothing but happy thoughts to express ….
