
Recently, I’ve had a spate of clients who have come to me after having not so pleasant experiences with other marketing companies or agencies. The vast majority of these people have paid a fortune for products or services that didn’t benefit their company at all but they were part of a package that was sold to them by very prominent marketing companies. This little post could actually have had a number of titles:
“How to make yourself look as unprofessional as possible to a potential client.”
“How to seem like a spammer even if you might not be.”
“How to lose all professional credibility.”
I could go on but I settled on, “How not to get a potential client’s attention with email” because that really is what the senders of the “cold” B2B emails that I get on a daily basis really need to take note of. The other problems could all be fixed with some of my pointers below.

Recently, while watching one of my favorite HGTV shows, “Holmes on Homes” I had a mini revelation. Mike Holmes is a Canadian contractor and an expert in his field. The premise of the show is that folks will call on Mike to, “Make It right” – that is, they had hired a company or individual to do a home improvement or remodel project and they didn’t do a great job.
